Lake Havasu City, Arizona seems to have more than it's fair share of great craft beer and one of the reasons why is Mudshark Brewing. Mudshark has been serving up their fine craft beers to thirsty patrons since 1998, which is when brewer Ron Chieffo and owner Scot Stocking started the Mudshark tradition. Speaking of tradition, Mudshark has a long tradition of fun filled events too. Like the Mud Club. Not only do Mud Club members enjoy drinking the fine Mudshark brew in their own personalized 22 oz mugs, but they also get to take part in regularly scheduled trips to sporting and other social events. But back to that brew. Mudshark is known for their fine food but the brew is really something special with many fine styles on tap throughout the year, as well as the regular seasonal offerings, like the upcoming Pumpkin Ale.

The Beer

Belly on up to the Mudshark bar and treat yourself to one of the main stays. You might want to start off with the Blond, which is their lightest beer. Perhaps you are a little more adventurous and would like to try a Hefeweizen or a Belgian style, like the Full Moon Ale. If you prefer a malty beer with a clean taste, try the popular Scorpion Amber Ale.

In addition to the many fine styles that Mudshark pours year round, they also have a fine array of seasonal styles. Mudshark is famous for their seasonal Pumpkin Ale and Scot tells us they are going to add a twist this year by toasting the 400+ pounds of Pumpkin pulp prior to brewing. Should be interesting! Towards the end of September/2002, the Oktoberfest goes on tap and I hear there are going to be some Oktoberfest Mugs to celebrate with this year too. The Pale Ale just went on tap recently and it is a winner. New brewer Andrew Carricato, who has taken over the brewing duties for recently departed Ron Chieffo, tells us that future beers not too far off into the future include a silky Chocolate Stout and an ESB. No matter what is on tap, it always proves to be a tasty experience at Mudshark Brewing.

The Food

From surf and turf to salads, Mudshark has something on the menu to please your palate. The salads are awesome and they come with the option of adding chicken, salmon, or shrimp. If you desire something a little bit more substantive, you can sink your teeth into one of the many fine burgers, sandwiches, pizzas, or pasta dishes the Mudshark has to offer. Last, but certainly not least, you can enjoy one of the many fine steak entrees on the menu, from rib eye to prime rib. Mudshark has daily specials so make sure to check out their web site for details. You can also relax on the nice patio out back and enjoy your favorite brews and food in the fresh evening air. The great brew, great food, and friendly service make Mudshark Brewing a must visit when in the Lake Havasu area.
